The Guitar Hero exclusivity of the pipingly hot and fresh Smashing Pumpkins single G.L.O.W. is old news, but the studio version of the song only just debuted the other day on some radio station.
Come on, come on, come on, can you feel it?
This blogger sure does (thwip snort)! I will always sing the praises of the 2007+ incarnation of the Pumpkins and all that they release because it's genuinely good; G.L.O.W. is, expectedtly, no exception. Another inch away from the Billybombast of Zeitgeist, their new tune harkens back to the commercially glorious mid-ninties while retaining the steps BC/JC have gained since then. It's very Mellon Collie, yet, undeniably, a current SP song. Although sonically not quite in tune with Zeitgeist, G.L.O.W. is easily imagined sandwiched between Bring the Light and (Come On) Let's Go! (perhaps on the KB Toys exclusive three disc second anniversary chartreuse edition?)
A masterful balance is struck: while obviously current Smashing Pumpkins, hearing G.L.O.W. is like hearing Jellybelly, Muzzle, or Here Is No Why on the radio. Personally, I love those songs more than a lot of MCIS, so G.L.O.W. recieves mighty high praise.
